In February of 2009 I wrote to Shawn Rubel of Flasheezy.com inquiring about the possibility of writing tutorials for his site. After a few email exchanges between us, the prospect of writing a series of tutorials turned into the idea to write a short ebook that would serve as a thorough introduction into AS3. The result of that idea came to life today as Flasheezy.com has officially launched Stepping Into ActionScript 3 – The Complete Guide for Easy Migration from AS2 to AS3.

The book spans 40 pages and covers everything you’ll need to quickly and easily understand the basics of ActionScript 3. From variables and functions to classes and events, it’s all in there and all explained in common English with plenty of working code samples to boot. If you’re interested, check out the link above and download the first 10 pages for free.

I want to personally thank Shawn at Flasheezy for giving me the opportunity to write the book. It was a great experience and a very unique challenge to have to think about the knowledge you use on an everyday basis in a format that others could easily read and understand. I spent a lot of time reading and double-checking my facts so that I could be confident I wasn’t leading anyone astray and in the end I almost doubled our estimated length of the book. This project was honestly unlike I had ever done before and hopefully anyone who picks up a copy of the book will find it easy to follow and informative.
